Siglo, the historic Rioja brand, is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its Siglo Saco Crianza with the launch of a commemorative edition. It will have a special bottle sleeve prepared by the Riojan designer David Catalán based on consumer opinions. These will be collected through a website where participants can win bottle packages and trips to Rioja.

David Catalán is a promising young Spanish designer who won the Mercedes Benz Fashion Talent prize for best emerging designer in September. His challenge is to redesign the iconic jute sacking sleeve of Siglo Crianza. The sleeve was created by the Italian designer Paolo Orsini in the 1940s and, 75 years later, it is the brand’s icon.

The opinion of Siglo consumers will be key in the design of the new cover. Project details are available on the website www.siglovino.com/75aniversario. Visitors can express their views on how they would like the anniversary sackcloth sleeve to be and participate in a competition linked to the history of the brand, with an opportunity to win bottle packages and trips to Rioja.

The result will be a commemorative, limited edition of Siglo Crianza to be launched next autumn.

Siglo is one of the historic Rioja brands, made at Bodegas AGE, which was founded in 1881. Siglo Crianza enjoys worldwide renown thanks to the sackcloth sleeve that covers the bottle, devised in the 1940s by the Italian designer Paolo Orsini. The sack protects the wine from light, sudden temperature changes and vibration. The bottles of Siglo Crianza are covered with the sack by the Rioja-based NGO, ASPRODEMA.
