Bodegas Riojanas presented the 2007 vintage of the Monte Real Reserva de Familia and the Viña Albina Reserva Selección, two of the most representative brands of the Reserva category in the D.O. Calificada Rioja. The 2007 vintage was rated Very Good in Rioja.
For Spanish consumers, Monte Real and Viña Albina are two classic benchmark brands that add distinction to great celebrations and always make a very suitable gift. The brands each have a different wine profile based on the provenance of the grapes and represent two traditional styles of the great Rioja Reserva reds, one more powerful and structured, the other lighter and more elegant. New controlled fermentation technologies and long maceration periods were applied to make both wines, which were aged for traditionally long periods, with 24 to 30 months in American oak barrels and a minimum of 24 months in the bottle before being put on the market.
Viña Albina Reserva Selección 2007 is made with 80% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo and 5% Graciano, coming from a selection of vineyard plots located in Cenicero, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and Villalba de Rioja —a blend that is truly representative of the classic Rioja Alta Reservas. It is a wine with cherry-red hues, an elegant nose, with fruity aromas and full yet subtle nuances of ageing. Well-structured, with a velvety, well-balanced mouthfeel, it has both body and finesse. It leaves persistent, fragrant sensations that entice one to take another sip. Good evolution in the bottle.
Monte Real Reserva de Familia 2007 is a single-varietal Tempranillo wine made exclusively with grapes from El Monte vineyard in Cenicero. The vines are more than thirty years old with low productivity and top quality grapes. The Monte Real Reserva de Familia 2007 is a deep cherry-red, with an orangey rim and powerful aromas. It has a deep vinous nature that blends harmoniously with hints of top-quality wood. Its abundant, suggestive, polished tannins provide a sensual structure in the mouth. Tasty and full-bodied, it provides an impression of opulence that extends to a magnificent finish with marked persistence. Mature and well developed, it is perfectly ready to drink.
