The all-enveloping label of this Rioja wine from Bodegas Torres is in a deep red colour with gold embossed diamonds and detailing. With this attractive look, which pays a nod to the classic labels of Riojan wines —its clipped corners would form small diamond shapes if several labels were joined together— Altos Ibéricos reaches the market with the aim of becoming one of the benchmark wines of the Designation and the perfect accompaniment to tapas and contemporary Spanish cuisine.
The wine, made from 100% Tempranillo grapes, takes its name from Alto Otero, an exceptionally beautiful area at the heart of La Rioja Alavesa, where Miguel Torres has a winery, and also evokes the cuisine of the Iberian Peninsula, which is recognised worldwide. The winery, covering an area of 25,000 m2, lies on the outskirts of the historical town of Labastida at an altitude of 1,271 metres, and was built according to the criteria of sustainability and integration with the landscape. It is equipped with solar panels, vertical wind turbines and a biomass boiler which meet 50% of the winery’s energy needs.
Altos Ibéricos is made from carefully-selected grapes and aged in American and French oak barrels for 12 months before being further refined by six months in the bottle. The result is a wine of exceptional quality which reflects the personality of the region in all its glory. The colour of Bigarreau cherries, on the nose it has an intense aroma of white flowers and red fruits, and its initial attack is fresh and velvety with a long, spicy aftertaste that expresses the refinement and smoothness of its tannins. This is an elegant, contemporary Rioja, ideal for drinking with the most traditional or innovative culinary creations of Spanish gastronomy, though the best foods for showcasing the true character of this wine are tapas, canapés, Iberian cured ham and red meats.
The world’s most admired wine brand
Bodegas Torres currently occupies the top position on the World’s Most Admired Wine Brand ranking, which is drawn up by the British magazine Drinks International. Having held second place on this world ranking —and the top one on the European ranking— for the last three years, Torres has this year achieved the ultimate international distinction, becoming the first Spanish and European winery to be given this accolade.
