The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2016 has announced its awards where Rioja has won three Grand Gold medals for Campillo Gran Reserva 2005 (Bodegas Campillo), Laztana 2012 (Bodegas Olarra ) and Sonsierra Crianza Selected Harvest 2011 (Bodegas Sonsierra ). In addition Rioja wines have been awarded 38 gold medals and 73 silver .
Once again, the competition has revealed critical insight into the latest trends within the world of wine, providing a snapshot of the global industry that is updated annually.
This year, the competition resumed its tour of Europe’s leading wine regions, travelling to the Bulgarian town of Plovdiv. Over 8,750 wines from 51 producer countries competed before a selection of the world’s foremost tasters. Sommeliers, buyers, importers, journalists and wine writers – in all, 320 wine tasters representing 54 nationalities gathered for 3 days to judge entries. The diverse range, both of entries and backgrounds of the tasters themselves, is one of the archetypal features of a competition that in just a few years has emerged as a world wine ‘tasting championship’.

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles will return next year to Spain and will visit Valladolid, Spain, in the heart of the Castilla y León region. This is the second Spanish stage of this travelling contest after Valencia in 2009. Over the past 10 years, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has become the largest showcase of Spanish wine diversity.
