On November 12, Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum was the scene of the 2016 international ‘Best Of Wine Tourism’ awards ceremony sponsored by the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. The City of Wine at at Bodegas Marqués de Riscal is a 100,000 square meter complex centered on the Hotel Marqués de Riscal designed by Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry, the original winery built in 1858, the first extension built in 1883, an ultramodern vinification plant and surrounding vineyards.
The ceremony took place during the gala dinner that marked the end of the Network’s annual general meeting celebrated at Bilbao-Rioja partnership. It was an important meeting that facilitated the exchange of experiences and business contacts among the regions that make up the Great Wine Capitals Global Network. From November 8 to 12, a number of activities taked place including the thematic committee meetings of the eight member regions, the Business Delegation made up of companies from several countries and the Travel Network of travel agencies from each member of the network.
On November 9 in Logroño, representatives of wineries had the opportunity to discover Spanish and international wine tourism experiences at the wine tourism conference titled Wine Tourism: a Strategy for Everyone, that includes a reception at Bodegas Marqués de Riscal.
