The panel at Meininger Verlag (the prestigious specialised German publisher) has included three of Bodegas Sonsierra´s wines in the TOP 100 of the Best Spanish Wines at Prowein thanks to their exceptional value for money. The wines are the Sonsierra Vendimia Seleccionada 2010, selected in the €3.51–€5.00 category, and the Sonsierra Gran Reserva 2008 and Pagos de la Sonsierra 2008, selected in the €8.01–€12.00 category.
Sonsierra Vendimia Seleccionada 2010 is a 100% Tempranillo wine made using grapes from the vineyards in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria. It is aged for 12 months in American oak barrels and spends a minimum 6 months in the bottle.
The result is a very expressive wine that is well-rounded, with a strong bouquet of vanilla, toasted, and overlain with ripe fruit and minerals.
Sonsierra Gran Reserva 2008 is a 100% Tempranillo wine made from grapes from the vineyards in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria. It is aged for 24 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels and 36 months in the bottle.
In the mouth: a bouquet of ripe fruits and raisins, with hints of cocoa, cream, fine toasting and a suggestion of balsam.
Pagos de la Sonsierra 2008 is a 100% Tempranillo wine made from grapes from the vineyards in the foothills of the Sierra de Cantabria. Following malolactic fermentation in barrels, the wine spends 16 months in a range of 30 French oak barrels from 8 different coopers. Then, the aging process continues for a further 26 months in the bottle.
A wine with clear, strong aromas of dark chocolate, raisins, chocolate liqueur, roasted coffee and cream with spicy overtones. In the mouth: great volume, breadth, succulence and sophistication. The finish is pleasant, long and persistent.
