The construction of the new cork treatment unit, which uses the “Diamant®” process, in Céret in the Pyrénées-Orientales in the heart of the Vallespir completes the existing 5ha site that also houses the Diam Bouchage head office.
This 2,000m2 expansion has allowed the company to develop a new unit («Diamant III») dedicated to the purification of cork, adding to those of San Vicente de Alcantara in Spain. It enables Diam Bouchage to keep pace with the ever increasing demands of its customers worldwide.
The group has opted, among the various scenarios, to invest in France and expand the existing site with the support of the town of Vallespir, the General Council of the Pyrénées Orientales, the Languedoc-Roussillon region and the ERDF (European regional development fund). At €30 million, this industrial project has created 25 new jobs on the site which currently has 150 employees.
With this new plant, Diam Bouchage will purify an additional 3,600 tons of cork flour. This will increase its production by 700 million closures and reach a total capacity of 2 billion closures annually. France, its largest market, represents 30% of sales. Diam is also developing significantly internationally and is already present in 42 countries worldwide.
Diam Bouchage, extremely committed to research, is already anticipating new developments. For this, the plant incorporates a 300m² laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to invent the products of tomorrow.
